BIOGRAPHY—DUO BEIJA-FLOR
Duo Beija-Flor, a flute and guitar duo, blends classical and world music influences into a unique “ethno-classical” style. With dynamic performances across Canada, the U.S., Argentina, and Costa Rica, the duo has released three acclaimed albums: Envol (2011), Muzica (2013), and Costas (2018), with the latter receiving rave reviews. They’ve been featured on TV and radio programs and have earned numerous awards, including grants from the Canadian Arts Council and the National Arts Centre.
Known for their “masterful arrangements” (Flute Quarterly, USA), Duo Beija-Flor collaborates with global musicians to deepen their cultural understanding. Notable projects include their arrangements of Piazzolla’s works and Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances. They continue to expand their repertoire, recently premiering works by Canadian composers and commissioning a new piece from Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
In 2023, the duo completed a residency at Orford Music, creating Musings from Elsewhere, a program blending diverse global influences into a cohesive musical journey.
