One to Remember! Classical Guitarist Emma Rush to tour in Atlantic Canada!
HALIFAX, NS – One of Canada’s preeminent classical guitarists, Emma Rush is set to take the Atlantic Canadian stage from November 3rd until November 11th as she embarks on the first portion of her Debut Atlantic tour. With such a powerful stage presence it is no wonder that her career has commanded world recognition taking her to tour throughout China, Europe, the United States, Mexico and of course Canada. A compelling program rich with folk traditions, Rush will also feature ‘Briny Ocean’ by Canada’s own Dale Kavanagh, a work depicting the dramatic weather of the Atlantic coast and the feelings of nostalgia for one’s home. Following her Debut Atlantic engagements, Emma will remain in Nova Scotia as artist-in-residence at Dalhousie University’s Fountain School of Performing Arts. She will return once again for part two of her Debut Atlantic tour in April of 2017.
Emma will begin her concerts in Moncton, NB on Friday, November 4th at 7:30pm performing for the Moncton Community Concert Association. She then appears for Musique Royale at Cecilia’s Retreat on Sunday, November 6th at 4:00pm. On Tuesday, November 8th, she will appear in Corner Brook, NL performing at the Rotary Arts Centre at 8:00pm. Then, on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00pm she will perform at The Music Room in Halifax, NS.
In addition to her concert engagements, Emma will be working with young students and performing at schools throughout the region. She will also participate in a videoconference session hosted by Newfoundland’s Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI) which reaches hundreds of students throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and will be available for public viewing around the globe. BIOGRAPHY
Emma Rush
Over the past decade, Emma Rush has established herself as one of Canada’s preeminent classical guitarists. Known for her innovative programming and powerful stage presence, along with her warm sound and virtuosic technique, an event with Emma Rush is not a typical classical music concert. She is a compelling and engaging performer, a passionate educator, and a dynamic arts impresario.
Emma Rush’s career has commanded world recognition. Recent touring highlights include a ten-day, 4-city tour in China, starting with the Altamira Shanghai International Guitar Festival, appearances at guitar festivals including Festival de Guitarras Lagos de Moreno (Mexico), the Lonestar Guitar Festival (Texas), Great Lakes Guitar Festival (Buffalo), and a prestigious concert at the Internationales Gitarren Symposion, Iserlohn (Germany). Canadian appearances have included concerts in Edmonton, Calgary, Halifax, Moncton, and Winnipeg, along with performances throughout Ontario as both a soloist and chamber musician. In 2016 Rush is a featured Debut Atlantic artist and will tour throughout Canada’s Atlantic Provinces.
Rush has been a prize winner at international music competitions (Great Lakes Guitar Festival and Competition, Columbus State International Competition), and was nominated for a Woman of Distinction Award for Arts and Culture (Hamilton, YWCA). She is the only artist to have received three City of Hamilton Arts Awards (as Established Artist in Music, in Arts Education, Arts Administration categories).
Folklórica, Rush’s much-anticipated debut CD, was released in the fall of 2014. The CD showcases a global classical guitar repertoire that draws inspiration from folk legend and traditional music harmonies; programmatic selections that evoke culturally diverse narratives.
Rush completed her graduate studies at the Hochshule für Musik in Detmold, Germany, following an honors Bachelor of Music degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. She holds faculty appointments at Mohawk College and Redeemer University College in Hamilton, and is the 2016 Artist-in-Residence at Dalhousie University.
Rush is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Guitar Hamilton concert series that includes the Hamilton International Guitar Festival.
