MONTREAL PIANO TRIO BRINGS PASSIONATE CHAMBER PERFORMANCES TO ATLANTIC CANADA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 14, 2014
HALIFAX, NS – Described as “lively” and “brilliant” (Le Soleil), piano trio Trio Lajoie is coming to the Atlantic region from October 17 – 27 for an exciting Debut Atlantic tour. This compelling ensemble features three friends — violinist Ariane Lajoie, cellist Julie Hereish and pianist Akiko Tominaga — with a vibrant passion for chamber music which they look forward to sharing with Atlantic Canadian audiences.
Trio Lajoie’s performances will highlight both piano trio greats and more novel works featuring composers including Mozart, Martinů, Arensky and Canadian composer Alice Ping Yee Ho. Since 2008, the young piano trio has performed in many prestigious venues across the country and are a mainstay of the Quebec music scene with appearances in Sainte-Pétronille, Pointe-Claire, Gatineau, Hudson, Joliette, Prévost, Quebec City, and at the Orford Arts Centre. In Montreal, the trio has appeared at the Maison de la culture Frontenac and in the Pro Musica series, Les Mélodînes, at Place des Arts. In addition to performances, the trio completed a Banff Centre residency under Anton Kuerti and Henk Guittart. Also, their debut recording, Mozart & Mendelssohn, was nominated for the 2012-2013 Prix Opus in the romantic disc category.
Beyond Trio Lajoie’s Atlantic concerts, the artists will be working with music students from grade primary to the post-secondary level and will also participate in a videoconference session hosted by Newfoundland’s Centre for Distance Learning and Innovation (CDLI). This workshop will take place at 11:30AM AST on Wednesday October 22 and will be broadcast live on the internet.
The CDLI session can be viewed live at: http://www.cdli.ca/backstage
Please see the enclosed list of tour dates for Trio Lajoie’s concerts and join them as they embark on an incredible voyage across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
