NOVA SCOTIAN PIANIST LUCY ZHANG WINS DEBUT ATLANTIC’S AWARD FOR MUSICAL EXCELLENCE!
Debut Atlantic is thrilled to announce that the winner of the 2024 Award for Musical Excellence is pianist Lucy Zhang, from Bedford, Nova Scotia!
Originally from Beijing, China, eighteen-year-old pianist Lucy Zhang is currently a student of Professor Lynn Stodola. With a rich array of accolades including the Nova Scotia Talent Trust (music scholarships and the 2023 Raymond Simpson Award), Federation of Canadian Music Festivals National Finalist, and a second-place finish in the professional category of the Steinway Piano Competition, her dedication to piano is evident. Recent performances include: a debut recital presented by the St. Cecilia Concert Series, soloist with the Chebucto Symphony Orchestra (Mozart Piano Concerto K. 467), and a solo performance at the Nova Scotia Talent Trust Awards Ceremony. She also participated in many recitals under the auspices of the Nova Scotia Registered Music Teachers’ Association and the Halifax Ladies’ Musical Club.
Immersed in the world of classical music, Lucy spends her time performing, listening to classical compositions, swimming, and engaging in piano-related interests. After graduating from C.P. Allen High School this Spring, Lucy’s journey is set to take her to the vibrant city of New York, USA, for further musical studies. As she continues to chase her dream of a career in music performance, Lucy envisions fulfilling her musical aspirations in this bustling and culturally rich city.
This year’s esteemed juror, pianist Jean-Luc Therrien, praised Lucy’s technical demand of the piano and her ability to show “different shades and types of sound on the instrument.”
Congratulations, Lucy!
Stay tuned for opportunities to hear this rising star!
