GUITAR SENSATION ENRICHENS ATLANTIC CANADIANS WITH MUSICAL TREASURES!
K’JIUPUKTUK/HALIFAX, NS – From March 12th-23rd, join guitarist Tariq Harb as he embarks on a concert tour of the Atlantic provinces with Debut Atlantic. Celebrated as “Canada’s next classical guitar superstar” by CBC Radio’s NEXT! Guitarist in 2013, Harb quickly established himself as one of the leading classical guitarists of his generation. Praised for his playing which demonstrates “not just his flawless technique but also his refined taste and a great, innate sense for truly beautiful interpretation” (The Jordan Times), Harb has performed in the world’s most prestigious halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Cairo Opera House, and Carnegie Hall in New York. Harb is also a published composer. His most recent composition “Spirit” – a suite in five movements – will be featured during his tour with Debut Atlantic.
Debut Atlantic is thrilled to be back to in-person performances and presenting high-calibre artists to audiences across Atlantic Canada. Tariq Harb will begin his tour in Antigonish, NS on Saturday, March 12th performing with the Antigonish Performing Arts Series at 7:30pm. For his first New Brunswick appearance, Harb will perform at MusicUNB in Fredericton, NB for a 12:00pm performance on Wednesday, March 16th. Harb then travels to Lunenburg, NS on March 18th, where he will perform with Musique Royale at the Central United Church at 7:30 pm. Afterwards, Harb travels to Wolfville, NS, where he will appear at the Acadia Performing Arts Series on Saturday, March 19th at 4:00pm and 7:30pm – two concerts in one day! Harb then appears in Moncton, NB on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30, where he will perform at the Théâtre Capitol Theatre. Harb finishes his Debut Atlantic tour in Pictou, NS on March 14th at 7:30 pm, where he will perform at the deCoste Performing Arts Centre.
In addition to concert engagements, Tariq Harb will be working with young students through the Debut Goes to School – 2021/22 Digital Program. This season, Debut Goes to School offers students throughout Atlantic Canada virtual access to outstanding classical and world musicians. Through this program, students are provided the opportunity to participate in live, interactive learning sessions and other events for various age groups and levels of ability.

BIOGRAPHY—Tariq Harb
After winning both the First Prize and the Audience Choice Award in the Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition, the First Prize in the Montreal International Classical Guitar Competition, and the ‘Governor of Tokyo’ prize in the Tokyo International Classical Guitar Competition, Tariq Harb quickly established himself as one of the leading classical guitarists of his generation. “In record time, Tariq Harb’s masterful command of melody and emotion shot him into the upper ranks of classical guitarists.” (TED Global) His playing demonstrates “not just his flawless technique but also his refined taste and a great, innate sense for truly beautiful interpretation.” (The Jordan Times) Chosen as CBC Radio’s NEXT! Guitarist in 2013, he was celebrated as “Canada’s next classical guitar superstar” and was showcased performing at the Glenn Gould studios, which helped further propel his career worldwide.
Harb’s past concert appearances are highlighted by performances in prestigious halls, most notably the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Cairo Opera House, and Carnegie Hall in New York. He is in demand as a concert soloist, chamber musician, and soloist with orchestra, and has five album recordings to date. Harb is also a published composer. His most recent composition “Spirit” – a suite in five movements – is published by Les Productions d’OZ and will be featured during his tour with Debut Atlantic in March 2022.
Harb holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Toronto, a Masters degree from McGill University, and Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from Concordia University.
